Business Pathways Program Evaluation

Established in 2010, Business Pathways is a mentoring program providing support for growing businesses in the Northern Rivers Region of New South Wales. The program’s ethos is that sustainable economic development in the region can only occur if there is a strong small business sector providing prosperity and jobs.

Candidates for mentoring include managers or owners of small and medium sized businesses within the region that are in a growth phase. The program matches mentees and mentors according to identified business needs and in many instances, mentees have access to multiple mentors.

The program currently draws on a mentor pool of approximately fifty highly experienced and mostly retired business people within the region. The common element amongst the program’s mentors is their keen desire to give back to the community through mentoring support of businesses within the region. Mentors share their expertise on a wide range of business skills including future forecasting and planning, management, marketing, financial management, human resources management, and business planning.

Philanthropic contributions provide funding for the program enabling mentees to participate in the program free of charge. In addition to this, mentors donate their time and expertise. To date over 120 mentees have participated in the program.
