Local Byron Business Kuppa Cups Takes out Sourdough’s Demo Night

By October 25, 2019 No Comments

Business for good was the key theme of the inspiring new cohort of startups who recently completed the Sourdough Pre-Accelerator Program run in partnership with Flinders University’s New Venture Institute.  The intensive eight week program culminated in demo night where four teams pitched their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges with Byron Bay based business Kuppa Cups announced as the overall winner. Judged on business desirability, viability, feasibility, Kuppa Cups are taking the lead in the reusing revolution by eliminating the disposable coffee cup issue through their unique borrow-swap-return system.

“The program was a mind-blowing and intensely enriching experience for me. During these 8 weeks I was able to define our values, focus on our why and step out of my comfort zone which has led to an incredible knowledge gain. The course was fantastically organised and from start to finish an overall great experience. We all learnt so much.” Benjamin Popp, Kuppa Cups, CEO and Founder.

Other pitches on the night included Forte –an online learning platform for youth; Feros Care’s End Loneliness Project, which provides a solution for loneliness in our elderly communities; and a fashion tech startup.

The program was facilitated by Ashleigh Camm, Sourdough’s Expert in Residence. “It has been fantastic to witness and support the journey of these talented entrepreneurs who have worked incredibly hard to get to this point.  The quality of their pitches was phenomenal, and I hope they are proud of what they have achieved. I really look forward to seeing their startup journeys unfold beyond the program.”

“These businesses are truly a testament to our region’s shared love of purposeful business. The Northern Rivers is brimming with talented entrepreneurs whose business ideas can transform the way we do business – purposeful, sustainable and regenerative business – and help create new jobs in the region.”

The Sourdough Pre-Accelerator program is about helping identify, educate and support businesses like these to iterate and grow, and share their impact across the region, nationally and internationally too.

Kuppa Cups will now go on to a pre-screening pitch to Found, the new name of Northern Rivers Founders, with a clear pathway towards potential investment.
