Southern Cross University’s business activator Live Ideas, in partnership with Sourdough Business Pathways, is proud to present its free workshop ‘Navigating IP and Commercialisation’. This event aims to support local aspiring entrepreneurs, founders and businesses to demystify the commercialisation process and share information about what support is available to help your commercialisation efforts both in our region, nationally and beyond.
The start of our session will be a panel discussion where we’ll hear from highly experienced founders and practitioners about their journey to commercialise globally impactful innovations from the Northern Rivers, as well as the support they garnered and challenges they faced along the way.
Following on from the panel, we’ll break out into a workshop session and you will have the opportunity to be mentored by the panelists; whether you’re a startup, an established business or neither yet. Bring your achievements, challenges, problems and questions, and we’ll collaborate to support you towards achieving your goals.

Mitra Ardron – Founder, Mentor, & Executive Director: Natural Innovation.org
Mitra works at the edges where Sustainability, Business, Community, Technology and Development meet. His life has been about building and growing companies and organisations (his own and other people’s) working in the areas of sustainability and development, especially those developing new technologies (of all kinds). Mitra started Lumeter, the leading PAYGO technology supplier; built Australia’s fastest-growing solar company; has worked on green materials and sustainable consumer products; and has mentored many innovators and entrepreneurs in a variety of technology-for-good contexts.
Today, through his own business Natural Innovation.org, Mitra mentors and supports innovators, entrepreneurs and investors working on important sustainability and impact problems where the solution is at least partly technical.
Gerard Criss – CEO, Rapair Medical Devices
Gerard Criss is the founder and CEO of Rapair Medical Devices, a Northern Rivers based company developing a range of medical devices utilising innovative healing technology developed by Dr Rosemary Craig. Dr Craig is a local GP and an Adjunct Professional Fellow of the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. Rapair Medical Devices are graduates of the CSIRO ON Accelerate program and winners of the 2020 NASA iTech competition.
Gerard has an extensive background in business having formed his first company back in 1988. He has worked for a number of large corporations including IBM, The Commonwealth Bank and Optus and has sat on a number of company boards, including Nornet Pty Ltd and as Chair of the Regional Information Technology Industry Association.
This Session will be facilitated by Ashleigh Camm of Sourdough Business Pathways. Ashleigh’s experience has spanned more than 15 years across strategy, investment banking, investor relations, governance, sustainability and working with startups, both in Australia and the UK. Today Ashleigh supports entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs and organisations to do more innovative and sustainable business towards a thriving future.
